Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed original game, developed by Kojima Productions, an independent studio led by the legendary creator of the acclaimed Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima. This new instalment will once again transport us to a post-apocalyptic vision of the future, brimming with strange paranormal phenomena where the realm of the dead overlaps with the world of the living. If you want to experience the game for yourself, you’ve come to the right place – you can download Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for free here.
So, what will Death Stranding 2 be about?
Judging by the enigmatic nature of the original Death Stranding, even those involved in the production are unlikely to be able to answer that question. The first game depicted the effects of an apocalypse, which prevented the souls of the dead from peacefully passing on to the afterlife. Instead, the dead were trapped in between worlds, taking the form of dangerous apparitions that hunted the living.
The interaction between the two worlds caused gigantic explosions, destroying everything within a radius of many kilometres. This led to the collapse of civilisation and infrastructure as we know it, and the aim of the game was to rebuild connections by reuniting a devastated America. A significant plot twist was the theme of the mass extinction of species, which was ultimately averted.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set several years after the first instalment. We know that the title will take us to regions outside North America. This time, the main character, Sam, expands the range of the chiral network — the superior and essential element of the infrastructure of civilisation — as a member of a private organisation. At this point, no further information about the plot has been revealed. The only detail that has been revealed is that the game’s story will address the question of whether we, as members of society, should be connected at all.
Start with exploration!
Hideo Kojima believes that his latest games belong to a new genre of ‘strand games’. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will also follow this style. Players will find themselves in an open world, acting as couriers and carrying out orders between specific locations. By visiting places cut off from infrastructure and connecting them to the chiral network, players will rebuild society and human bonds simultaneously.
Exploration and taking care of the cargo will be important during the game. There will be opportunities to travel by vehicle and build structures that help us to overcome difficult terrain. The game will also feature asynchronous social elements: during gameplay, players will encounter traces of others and be able to send them ‘likes’. However, in case of danger, we will have to defend ourselves against enemies in combat using deadly weapons.
Gameplay
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a sequel to the third-person action game and is set mainly in open-world environments in Mexico and Australia. The basis of the gameplay remains delivering packages to scattered settlements while overcoming difficult terrain and managing the load in your backpack. Players are given a vehicle that can be modified — for example, by adding batteries or gun turrets — to make the journey easier.
The world reacts dynamically to natural disasters such as earthquakes and sandstorms, forcing players to alter their routes. A key element of the game is the reconstruction of infrastructure, including roads and bridges, and eventually the creation of a monorail system that connects isolated communities and enables the mass transport of goods.
There is more combat in this part
Death Stranding 2 places a greater emphasis on combat than the original game. Players can choose to confront enemies directly, use stealth tactics, or avoid them by exploring more difficult terrain. Sam has a wide arsenal of tools at his disposal with which to manipulate the attention of enemies, whose behaviour changes dynamically with the cycle of day and night.
Progressing through the game unlocks upgrades to the Automated Porter Assistant system, which functions as a skill tree divided into three categories: combat, stealth and courier services. Sam’s stats also grow organically — for instance, delivering packages more frequently improves his efficiency in this area.
Which actors will appear in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach?
As with the first game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will feature highly cinematic characters and a film-like storyline. This is why many famous actors from Hollywood and beyond will once again appear in the game.
We know that Léa Seydoux will reprise her role as Fragile. Nicolas Winding Refn (Heartman) and Norman Reedus, who lends his face and voice to the main character, will also be appearing. New roles will be played by actresses Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna, who will play Tomorrow and Rainy, respectively.
The game will also feature George Miller as Tarman and Jonathan Roumie as Dollman. Rest assured that these are not the only celebrities involved in the project, and that there will be more famous faces in the full version.
