The plot of the game

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition takes us on a journey into the cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith, specifically Night City, a fictional metropolis on the northern Californian coast. As the game progresses, we take on the role of V – an aspiring mercenary – and our task is to make a name for ourselves in a dark world dominated by brutal megacorporations and social inequality.

While in the base game V comes into possession of a chip that is supposed to be the key to immortality and must face the consequences of having it installed in her head, in the expansion Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, our mission is to rescue Rosalind Myers, the President of the New United States. The Space Force One plane Myers was travelling in has crashed in Dogtown, an autonomous district of Night City under the control of the paramilitary group Barghest.

In addition to V, two other characters play a major role in the story told by the creators. The first is Johnny Silverhand, played by Keanu Reeves. He is an extremely popular rockerboy (rockman) whose consciousness has been transferred to the chip installed in V’s head, thus making his fate inseparable from that of the protagonist. The other is Solomon Reed, the experienced agent who helps V to save the President, lent his body, face and voice by Idris Elba.

Game mechanics

In Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, the action is viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP). We start the game by creating a character, choosing their appearance (we can combine female and male features) and their origin. Depending on whether we choose to be a nomad, a punk or a weirdo, our journey will start in a different place and we will be given different dialogue options. At this stage, we also assign points to the character’s five main attributes. After that, there is nothing left for us to do but plunge into adventures.

The production provides us with an open world, the heart of which is the sprawling city of Night City. The metropolis is made up of a number of districts; the add-on Cyberpunk 2077: Specter of Freedom adds another location – Dogtown. We can also explore the sandy wastelands scattered around Night City, where nomads live in their camps. We can move around the game world on foot, as well as using cars and motorbikes.

The theme of the game is quests that advance the plot, accompanied by numerous missions and side activities. These can be completed in a variety of ways, and our actions and choices will affect the course and outcome of the story.

Develop your character and fight a variety of enemies

While wandering around Night City and completing new quests, we often have to fight enemies. We can take them out quietly by sneaking up behind them and taking them by surprise, or by confronting them head on. The fights are dynamic and we mainly use more or less futuristic weapons (ranged and white).

We also have a range of combat and hacking skills at our disposal, thanks in part to various implants installed in the body of the V. DLC Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty introduced a new ability tree, offering alternative ways of dealing with enemies, including the ability to fire from vehicles.

As you progress, your character will evolve and you will get better equipment to take on more challenges over time. At the same time, it’s worth remembering that we’re not allowed to kill anyone in the game, as our actions will not escape the attention of the police (whose behaviour has improved considerably since the release of the basic version of the game). Technical issues

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is powered by the proprietary RED Engine technology. The title boasts high quality visuals, including the use of ray tracing technology. Another strong point of this production is the soundtrack, which is dominated by songs by the band Refused.
