The plot of the game
True to its title, the production takes place on the sandy planet of Arrakis, known from Frank Herbert’s Dune series of novels, which has been adapted into several films and games (including Dune II: Battle for Arrakis, Emperor: Battle for Dune or Dune: Spice Wars).
Game mechanics
Dune: Awakening combines elements of an MMO and a survival multiplayer game. The game takes place in a large open world inhabited by thousands of players. Your main task is to collect the most valuable substance in the galaxy, called Spice. This requires the use of large machines and protecting them from attacks by rivals. Players are also busy gathering other resources and building encampments to serve as bases of operations and shelter from sandstorms.
The planet of Arrakis is notorious for its harsh conditions, so a lot of time will be spent fighting for survival, limiting water consumption, looking after the filterfrakes and learning a special walking style to avoid the attention of the giant reds.
Throughout the game, Arrakis is constantly changing. Giant sandstorms appear from time to time, covering discovered locations and revealing new ones waiting to be explored. Player characters can also consume spices, which give access to a variety of powers.
