Ara: History Untold is a 4X turn-based strategy game from the studio behind it, Oxide Interactive. This is a team founded by former employees of Firaxis Games, a company specialising in this genre (responsible for the best-selling Civilization series, among other things). Previously, the authors of the project in question developed the game Ashes of the Singularity and the add-on Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation, as well as developing the proprietary technology that was showcased in a technology demo called Star Swarm. Game Mechanics

In Ara: History Untold we see the action from a bird’s eye view. During the game, we stand at the head of a chosen nation and our task is to lead it through successive eras towards a bright future. It is up to us whether we choose to impersonate one of the historical figures, such as Safona, Nefertiti or George Washington, or create our own leader from scratch.

As the game progresses, we will need to discover and conquer new territories and acquire valuable resources. The latter will be used to build a variety of structures that will provide us with skills and strategic bonuses, as well as constant technological development that will give us access to new goods, resources and improvements. We should also promote culture and the arts, and build relationships with neighbours with whom we can trade or form alliances. And if diplomacy fails, we can raise a powerful army and send it into battle. But as we think globally, we should not forget the individual, for every citizen here has a unique personality and history, shaped in part by our actions.

Different paths to victory

Interestingly, there are no predetermined paths to victory in the game, so it’s up to you to decide how to dominate the other nations. This, combined with the procedurally generated maps and the challenges we face, makes each game feel completely different from the last.

Technical issues

Ara: History Untold runs on proprietary Nitrous Engine technology. The capabilities of this graphics engine are impressive, resulting in maps filled with buildings and vegetation teeming with detail.
