Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is the sequel to the cyberpunk role-playing game inspired by paper RPGs. Gareth Damian Martin, founder and sole member of independent studio Jump Over The Age, has once again teamed up with illustrator Guillaum Singelin (PTSD. Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome) and composer Amos Roddy (The Wild at Heart, Some Distant Memory) to create a cosmic tale of a mechanical refugee. The plot of the game

In Citizen Sleeper 2, we return to a universe ruled by all-powerful corporations. This time, the protagonist is another of the Sleepers of the title – a person whose mind has been transformed into digital data and transferred into a mechanical body.

This android is also a fugitive, wanted by his former employers. However, fate has led him to a completely different place than the protagonist of the first game. The protagonist ends up in the Starward Belt, at the very edge of the Helion system, with a stolen ship in a deplorable state, an equally damaged robotic body and amnesia. Not to mention the bounty on his head.

If the protagonist wants to survive and escape his employers once and for all, he will have to find a way to patch up his ship and his physical (or mechanical) shell and put together a crew. As if that weren’t enough, the conflict between the two corporations intensifies. Echoes of their distant clashes even reach the outskirts of the Helion system, whether in the form of refugees or damaged warships.

Game Mechanics

When Gareth Damian Martin began work on the game, he wasn’t planning a major revolution. Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector still borrows heavily from paper RPGs. The gameplay is divided into cycles, and our main task is to ensure that the main character survives as long as possible to have a chance of escaping the employer who is looking for him.

At the beginning of each cycle, we roll the dice and assign numbers to selected actions or events (so-called dice placement). There are no classical tasks either, which the Creator has replaced with drives. They are responsible for the development of the hero’s skills, such as Engineering and Stamina.

This does not mean that the second Citizen Sleeper is “just” a new story in an almost identical game. This time, the protagonist doesn’t live on a dilapidated space station, but has his own ship that needs repairs and a crew. All this requires resources, which we can only obtain by taking on often risky missions, which can also bring the hero’s former employer to our aid.

Crew and ship management gave the creator an excuse to introduce new gameplay mechanics and modify the systems known from the first game. Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector download for free for PC.

Technical issues

Guillaume Singelin was once again responsible for the visual layer. So it should come as no surprise that the cartoon-style graphics of Citizen Sleeper 2 are similar to those of the first game, combining a sterile three-dimensional world with two-dimensional characters. There are still no recorded dialogues, although the characters do talk quite a lot, as befits an RPG. The atmosphere of the space adventure is complemented by Amos Roddy’s music.
