Maniac is an isometric action game with roguelike elements, where the gameplay focuses on wreaking havoc and destruction in an open world. The title was developed by Warsaw-based Transhuman Design studio (King Arthur’s Gold, BUTCHER) and was inspired by the first two-dimensional instalments of the Grand Theft Auto series. Game mechanics

In Maniac, our main task is to wreak havoc on the streets of the colourful city. The developers have given us a cast of characters with different traits, skills, equipment and motivations.

We can control Iggy the Clown with a baseball bat, wreak havoc with Evil Santa with a shotgun, or play as Melissa, an inconspicuous girl who aspires to rule the world. Heroes differ in a number of traits, such as endurance, speed and the ability to use weapons. We can also buy upgrades (such as a bulletproof vest) or an arsenal.

The production is characterised by an open structure – we can traverse eleven districts of the city on foot or by driving vehicles such as motorbikes and civilian or military cars. These are used to spread chaos on the streets and to escape from law enforcement when resistance becomes too strenuous. As the level of destruction increases, we turn our attention to more and more powerful crime-fighting units. This gives us the opportunity to take over their equipment, including tanks. Technical issues

The work of Transhuman Design is characterised by colourful, comic-style graphics that contrast with the brutal gameplay. It is worth mentioning that, thanks to Maniac’s built-in map editor, we can create new neighbourhoods ourselves.
