Indika is an adventure game enriched with lightly sketched arcade elements. The production, inspired by the works of Mikhail Bulgakov and Fyodor Dostoyevsky, was developed by the independent studio Odd Meter. We are talking about a Moscow-based development team that moved to Kazakhstan, more specifically the city of Almaty, after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The release of this title, however, was handled by the Polish company 11 bit studios. It is worth mentioning that part of the proceeds from the sale of the game were donated to children affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The plot of the game
Indika takes us on a journey to an alternative version of 19th century Russia, where religious visions mix with reality. The main character is the titular Indika, a young nun who decides to leave the cold convent walls and embark on a journey to discover herself. Along the way, the protagonist discovers the truth behind religion and authority, as well as the dualistic nature of good and evil. At the same time, Indika is not condemned to a lonely journey, as she is accompanied by the devil himself.
Although all this sounds too serious, the story told in the game can be described as a tragicomedy.
Game mechanics
Indika is played from a third-person perspective (TPP). The adventure takes us through a variety of atmospheric locations, ranging from the harsh Russian wilderness and villages inhabited by poor people, to more sophisticated places such as industrial complexes.
Along the way we meet various characters, solve environmental puzzles, and occasionally take part in arcade sequences, such as running away from a large dog. Technical issues
Indika boasts a fairly high quality of graphic design. We like the detailed character models, as well as the atmospheric and varied locations, designed with attention to detail.
