Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes is a classically realised JRPG game. It was developed by the Japanese studio Rabbit & Bear. The production was developed as a spiritual heir to the Suikoden series. The project was led by the father of the series, Yoshitaka Murayama, with other veterans of the franchise including Junko Kawano, Osamu Komuta and Junichi Murakami. The plot of the game

The game takes place on the continent of Allraan, whose history has been marked by constant warfare between humans, elves, animals and desert dwellers. When the story begins, the Galdean Empire is dominant, having gained the upper hand over its rivals thanks to the discovery of a technology that increases the power of the runic lenses that form the basis of magic in the land.

Galdean regularly organises expeditions in search of a powerful artefact to cement its position as a superpower. During one of these expeditions, a young Imperial Army officer and a warrior from a small village meet. They quickly become friends, but history throws them into the middle of a war that will change the fate of an entire continent.

Game mechanics

Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes is a Japanese role-playing game inspired by the classics of the genre. The game involves exploring the world, completing quests, developing characters and fighting battles. Battles are fought in a turn-based system in which we control a team of six players.

The game is not limited to the fate of the two heroes mentioned above. In total, we get to know the stories of hundreds of characters involved in the conflict. Each of them has a unique personality and their own adventures. Not all of them are soldiers – there is no shortage of people who specialise in other areas that will help us win the war.

A key part of the game is the expansion and management of the town. Recruited characters will live there and become the local blacksmith or cook, for example. As your fort grows, new trade options and additional ways to upgrade characters and equipment will open up. Characters can also join guilds to gain access to unique attributes.

Game modes

The game only has a single player mode. The developers have not included a multiplayer option. Instead, after completing the campaign, a New Game+ option is unlocked, which allows you to replay the story with the same character development, but at a higher difficulty level.

Technical issues

Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes offers attractive visuals, with 3D locations and 2D characters. It looks modern, but retains the atmosphere of 32-bit JRPGs.
