Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a sequel to the 2018 RPG, which featured medieval realities portrayed in a historically faithful manner in the form of an open-world, first-person view (FPP). KCD2, set in a similar time and place to the original, retains all these features, but has been developed with more flair. This was made possible by the success of the first installment, which saw Czech studio Warhorse grow to about 250 employees by the end of the sequel’s production. The plot of the game

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes place immediately after the events of the first game, in Bohemia in 1403, and continues the story of Henry – the son of a blacksmith who is burning with a desire for revenge for the murder of his home village. As the squire of the knight Jan Ptaszek, the hero this time becomes involved in a larger intrigue revolving around a civil war on which the fate of the entire kingdom may depend.

The developers have tried to present the story in such a way that familiarity with the first game is not necessary. The larger scale of the project is reflected in the total length of the intermission videos – previously the result was more or less three hours, and “two” contains more than five hours of so-called cutscenes.

Game mechanics

Like its predecessor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has a semi-sandbox character that throws the player into an open world where, in addition to the main plot, he can indulge in side quests and other optional activities, such as forming romantic relationships, hunting, or playing dice.

Although there is no character creator (we play a specific character), we can personalize Henry’s appearance, primarily through a wide selection of clothing and armor items as part of the inventory management mechanic.

An extensive character development system and a wealth of mechanics mean that the problems that arise can be dealt with in a variety of ways. In addition to combat, there are options such as diplomacy or sneaking (along with opening castles or stealth). Crafting is also present, allowing you to create or improve items in the course of immersive mini-games.

Improved combat system

Battles are realistic – they faithfully reproduce authentic medieval fighting techniques with swords and other white weapons (ranged weapons can also be used). This means that they require a certain amount of tactics, and every hit to the hero or the enemy has potentially serious consequences. For this reason, we tend to stumble over individual enemies – although we do occasionally get involved in large-scale battles, such as castle sieges.

The combat system has been made more accessible (in an effort to maintain realism), and two categories of weapons have been added to Henry’s arsenal – crossbows and early gunpowder weapons.

New Locations

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II takes us to a different region of Bohemia than the first game – or rather, regions, as the game includes two open maps that are twice the size of the previously available areas. The first is a land called Bohemian Paradise, with Trosky Castle towering over it, and the second includes the large city of Kutná Hora (English and German: Kuttenberg), located further south and built over a silver mine, and the surrounding areas.

The developers put more emphasis on creating a living world that reacts to the player – for example, when the protagonist runs through the streets in a negligee or commits crimes – and allows him to give contextual responses to taunts.

Game Modes
