Deltarune is a role-playing game (RPG) produced by Toby Fox, the creator of the popular game Undertale. It was released on computers and consoles. Initially, only the prologue was made available. Deltarune is a spin-off of Undertale. The full version is now available, and as usual, you can download Deltarune for free from our website.
Although Deltarune is not officially a sequel to Undertale, Toby Fox has stated that it is intended for players who have completed Undertale. As mentioned in the introduction, Fox initially made only the first chapter available to play, partly because of the much greater production momentum compared to its predecessor.
Plot
The main character is Kris, a mischievous boy who, together with his companion Susie, travels through the Dark World. He discovers a passage to this world in the school closet and must restore the balance between light and darkness there.
Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, Deltarune differs from its predecessor in several ways. While in Undertale we controlled a single character and observed battles from a first-person perspective — not to mention the arcade elements — here we are dealing with a system more reminiscent of classic JRPGs.
The combat system in the successor to Undertale has developed in a rather unexpected direction. Rather than controlling a single character, we now control a whole three-person team. Each of them can perform more than the four actions we saw in the original game. Initially, we have the ability to attack, defend against attacks, use spells, show mercy, and so on.
Try to ensure that all the monsters survive
It is important to show mercy because we should not kill monsters. However, this is not so easy, especially since Susie at the beginning can launch attacks without our interference.
The arcade theme of avoiding enemy attacks in a manner similar to bullet hell games, as seen in the previous game, is back in full force. Dodging attacks ‘by a hair’s breadth’ is an added bonus. When it comes to attacking opponents, there is a mini-game for reflexes which determines how much damage is inflicted.
The most important thing, however, is what was explained at the beginning of both games: no one here has to die. Every enemy can be saved from their own stupidity (i.e. attacking our team) or from a bloodthirsty lady with an axe.
Toby Fox remains as mysterious as ever
The game developer announced the news on social media in the form of a minimalist but informative graphic. He also wished everyone a happy New Year. Translating a piece of text from the image: ‘Don’t forget that Episodes 3 and 4 of the Deltarune game will also be released in 2025.’
The word ‘also’ was written in small print, prompting speculation among players. Some took this to mean that Toby Fox has other surprises in store, in addition to the aforementioned chapters. For now, this is all speculation and hope, as the developer has not confirmed anything. From the comments, it can also be inferred that the game’s release is highly anticipated and will be one of the most significant indie launches of 2025.
