God of War: Ragnarok is an action-adventure game that is the fifth main installment in the God of War series, released in 2005. It was developed by Santa Monica Studios, part of the PlayStation Studios family, and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The plot
The plot of God of War: Ragnarok takes place several years after the events depicted in the previous installment of the series. The title Ragnarok, or the great battle between the Norse gods and giants that will lead to the end of the world, is fast approaching. This is evidenced by the fact that the Great Winter (Fimbulvinter) that precedes it has already reached Midgard. To avoid the inevitable tragedy that will undoubtedly result from further confrontations with the Asas, Kratos is determined to ensure Atreus’ safety at all costs.
The son of a Spartan warrior, however, is consumed with curiosity about his identity and the role he will play in the events to come. The heroes are about to embark on another adventure filled with hardships and choices that will determine not only their fate, but the future of all nine worlds. Both previously inaccessible lands, i.e. Vanaheim, inhabited by the Van, home of the dwarves, Svartalfheim and home of the Asgard, as well as new places in already visited worlds await them: Alfheim, Muspelheim, Helheim, Niflheim, Jotunheim and Midgard.
Game Mechanics
In GoW: Ragnarok, the action is viewed from behind the protagonist’s back (TPP view). As we travel through various locations – from jungles to vast, labyrinthine mines – we complete quests that advance the story, complete a variety of side missions, solve environmental puzzles, and, as befits a production about the God of War, fight hordes of diverse enemies.
The game offers a combat system familiar from the previous installment of the series, but with a number of improvements and new elements. During fights, you will have to watch your enemies’ movements carefully, dodge in time and counterattack quickly.
Classic weapons unchanged
We eliminate enemies using the protagonist’s iconic Blades of Chaos, as well as an axe called the Leviathan. Both weapons unleash their own special attacks, and the damage they inflict can be enhanced with fire and ice magic, respectively, allowing you to set enemies on fire or freeze them.
Both the Blades of Chaos and the Leviathan can also be used by Kratos outside of combat. They are particularly useful when solving complex environmental puzzles. For example, the former killing tool is used to dismantle the boiling water cauldrons we encounter in Svartalfheim, and the latter is used to freeze the geysers there. You can also use the blades to catch yourself on ledges, making it easier to get to high ledges, and throw the axe to summon it to you, similar to what Thor does with Mjolnir.
Defend effectively with shields
God of War: Ragnarok also features two types of shields that are new to the series. One allows for dynamic defense and unarmed counterattacks, while the other provides a powerful shield and is capable of storing kinetic energy from enemy blows, which can be released from time to time by hitting the ground, causing devastating shockwaves.
Support from Atreus
In combat, we also benefit from the help of Atreus, who actively supports us. The boy once again shoots on cue with a bow and has gained new abilities – he can collapse various structures on enemies, for example. What’s more, in GoW: Ragnarok, he is also extremely useful outside of duels. For example, he can operate various devices while Kratos is busy with something else.
As the game progresses, we will develop both heroes and upgrade their weapons and armor, allowing us to face stronger and stronger opponents over time.
Diverse enemies
