Sovereign Syndicate is a classic RPG inspired by titles such as Baldur’s Gate, the first instalments of the Fallout series, Divinity: Original Sin and Disco Elysium. The plot of the game

Sovereign Syndicate takes us on a journey to an alternate, steampunk version of Victorian London. As we play, we take on the role of one of three characters whose stories are intertwined by the choices we make. While Atticus Daley is a magically gifted Minotaur trying to cope with alcohol addiction and find his place in the world, Clara Reed is a pirate on the trail of a courtesan killer, while Otto, a machine created by engineer Theodore Redgrave, wants more out of life than to serve and be a useful tool.

Game mechanics

In Sovereign Syndicate, we see the action in an isometric view. The title puts at our disposal a vast open world made up of twenty different locations. As we wander through the dark alleys and shabby buildings that make up steampunk London, we complete tasks that advance the plot and engage in a variety of side missions. Each problem can be solved in a variety of ways, from persuasion to combat.

When talking to the townspeople, it is important to remember that how they treat us is not only determined by the dialogue points we choose, but also by our character’s gender and appearance. During the conversation, we can use the unique abilities of a given character. Interestingly, success in the skill tests is determined not by virtual dice rolls, but by the tarot cards we draw.

Every hero has different abilities

Speaking of abilities, each hero has a unique set of skills. We develop certain skills by simply using them, and those that remain dormant stagnate over time. Such a system allows us to easily customise the character to suit our individual playing style. We can also increase the hero’s abilities by giving him better equipment. Technical issues

The graphic design of Sovereign Syndicate is rather dark. The locations visited are dominated by shades of brown, and most of them are also bathed in an atmospheric twilight.
